Journaling can be such a powerful tool, but if you’re like most people, sticking to the habit can be challenging despite all the benefits. Life gets busy, motivation wanes, or you simply forget. Full disclosure, even as someone who swears by journaling, and has even created a business around it, I can go weeks without putting pen to paper.
Here are some tips to help you make journaling a consistent part of your routine or help get you out of that journaling rut:
Create a High Vibe Experience
Set the mood for your journaling session by creating a space that feels calming and inspiring. Think cozy pillows, soft blankets, and natural sunlight, along with your favorite soothing scents or playlist. For me, it’s all about the little touches—like a warm cup of tea and a candle flickering nearby—that help me feel grounded, centered, and ready to write with intention.
Choose the Right Journal
Find a journal that truly inspires you. It could be a journal filled with prompts and quotes, a simple notebook, or even a digital app. When you love the journal you’re using, it makes the whole process so much more enjoyable. I couldn’t find the perfect journal for myself, so I designed my own, and that’s how Full Bloom Journals came to be.
Create a Ritual
Find a time that works best for you, whether it’s first thing in the morning or right before bed. Consistency is key, so pick a time you can stick to and make it part of your daily routine. A lot of people swear by mornings for their journaling practice because it’s peaceful and distraction-free, while others love the evening to unwind and process everything. Whatever time you choose, make sure it feels right for you and fits seamlessly into your routine.

Start Small
Begin with just a few minutes a day. You don’t need to write a novel—just jot down a few thoughts, a quick reflection, or a gratitude list. Starting small helps build the habit without feeling overwhelmed.
Use Prompts
If you’re not sure where to start, using journaling prompts can help to get the ideas flowing. Prompts can guide you and make it easier to get started, especially on days when you’re feeling stuck. All of our journals have a list of simple prompts at the back for days where you need a little more inspiration.
Be Kind to Yourself
Remember, there’s no “right” way to journal. If you miss a day or your entries don’t feel profound, that’s okay. The goal is to create a habit, not to be perfect. Be gentle with yourself and allow yourself to write judgment-free.
Building a journaling habit takes time, but the rewards are worth it. Give yourself grace, enjoy the process and focus on progress, not perfection—one page at a time.
Happy journaling!
